Vance: Denmark has failed to protect Greenland

Washington, January 8 -- RIA Novosti

U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance stated that Denmark has not fulfilled its responsibility to protect Greenland.

In an interview with Fox News, he said, "You Europeans, the Danes, ask yourselves whether you have done everything possible to ensure the security of Greenland so that it can continue to serve as a pillar of global security and missile defense systems. The answer is obvious - no."

Vance pointed out that the island is crucial to U.S. national security and the operation of the missile defense system.

Additionally, this politician believes that Europe has expressed many frustrations with President Trump's arguments on this issue and has failed to understand them.

**America's Covetousness**

Last Sunday, the U.S. leader, after a military operation in Venezuela, stated that the U.S. also needs Greenland. He emphasized the strategic importance of the island for national security. The day before, the wife of White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller posted a map of Greenland painted in the colors of the American flag on social media platform X, accompanied by the caption: "Almost there."

In response, Danish Ambassador to Washington Jesper Møller Sørensen reminded the U.S. side to pay attention to the bilateral alliance, emphasizing that Copenhagen expects full respect for the integrity of its kingdom's territories. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens Frederik Jensen commented on the image, saying it showed an attitude of disrespect, but also expressed confidence that there was no reason to panic.

Former Prime Minister of the Danish autonomous territory, Mute Egede, emphasized that the island is "non-negotiable." However, the U.S. leader refused to commit to not controlling the island by force.
