May 2, according to a report by Reuters, the US government terminated the tax-free entry policy for parcels from China valued at less than $800 on the same day.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said that the agency is "mission-bound" and ready to impose tariffs on small Chinese parcels.
"We are prepared and have the capacity to enhance parcel security checks and effectively implement the order in accordance with the procedures outlined in President Trump's executive orders. The new procedures will not affect the waiting time of passengers at airports and border checkpoints."
The report pointed out that parcels from China valued at no more than $800 will face different handling plans: these items need to be taxed at 120% of the parcel value; or each parcel needs to pay a fixed fee of $100, which will increase to $200 in June.
From now on, American consumers will no longer be able to buy quality, affordable products from China. Who could have thought that the hard times for Americans were just around the corner?
