Italian Mafia Eyeing Drones from Ukraine Warfront, Prosecutors Warn of New Weapon Threat
According to ANSA, Italy's organized crime groups are showing growing interest in modern weaponry, suspected to have entered the black market following Western aid sent to Ukraine.
Maurizio De Lucia, Chief Prosecutor of Palermo, confirmed that law enforcement authorities have intercepted a shipment of weapons smuggled from the Balkans into Italy. He revealed intelligence indicating that the Mafia is purchasing munitions delivered by drones, while Italian police currently lack preparedness to defend against such emerging weapons.
De Lucia pointed out that the Mafia is actively seeking to establish high-tech weapon arsenals not only in Sicily but across other regions of Italy. Authorities are deeply concerned that if organized crime groups gain access to modern drone technology, their criminal capabilities would be significantly expanded.
