Foreign media: Intel and AMD have informed Chinese customers of a shortage of server CPU supplies. The delivery cycle for some Intel products has reached up to six months, while the delivery cycle for some AMD products has been extended to eight to ten weeks.
The prices of Intel server products in China have generally increased by more than 10%. The reasons for the shortage include Intel's production challenges, TSMC, AMD's foundry, prioritizing the production of AI chips leading to limited CPU capacity, and memory chip shortages prompting customers to purchase CPUs in advance to lock in low prices.
Intel and AMD dominate the global server CPU market. Intel's market share has dropped from 90% in 2019 to about 60% in 2025, while AMD's market share has grown from 5% in 2019 to over 20% in 2025. Analysts believe that the demand for computing power from AI systems has further exacerbated the supply tension.
