Foreign Media: China Builds the World's Largest Capacity Smart Transformer to Deal with Energy Fluctuations

In response to the risk of a nationwide blackout caused by wind power fluctuations in Xinjiang in August last year, Chinese engineers have developed the world's most powerful smart DC transformer. A 750 MVA (MVA) transformer developed by Changzhou Xidian has set a new world record for single-unit capacity, specifically designed to address instability when high proportions of renewable energy are connected to the grid.

This technology will be applied in the world's first ultra-high voltage flexible DC transmission project connecting Gansu and Zhejiang, which is 2,370 kilometers long. After the project is put into operation, it will supply more than 36 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the East China region annually, significantly enhancing the safety and operational flexibility of the national power grid when facing new energy shocks.
