Foreign Media: Former Microsoft Asia Research Institute AI Scientist Cao Ting Joins Tsinghua University
Artificial intelligence expert and former research manager at Microsoft Asia Research Institute (MSRA), Cao Ting, left Microsoft in July and joined the Tsinghua University Institute for Intelligent Industry, following former MSRA director Zhang Yaqin.
Since its establishment in Beijing by Bill Gates in 1998, MSRA has been known as "the hottest computer laboratory in the world," attracting hundreds of top scholars and driving core AI achievements such as speech, image, and face recognition. However, with the rapid rise of China's AI industry and U.S. restrictions, MSRA faces talent loss and future uncertainty.
The Beijing lab was once Microsoft's largest research center outside the United States and its first research institution in Asia.
