South Korean media: CATL still leads the way outside of China!

On May 4th, South Korean media "Korea Economic Daily" published an article stating that in the global electric vehicle battery market excluding China, the market share of South Korea's three battery companies LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On has also decreased.

According to energy market research firm SNE Research, from January to February this year, the total amount of electric vehicle batteries used in the global market excluding China was 58.3 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 27.3%. On the other hand, the share of the three South Korean battery companies during the same period was 38.6%, down 6.2 percentage points from last year (44.8%).

LG Energy Solution's battery usage was 12.2 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 14.0%, but its share fell from 23.4% to 20.9%. SK On maintained third place with 6.1 GWh, growing by 38.6%, with its share rising slightly from 9.6% to 10.5%.

On the other hand, Samsung SDI had 4.2 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 22.2%. A slowdown in demand from major automotive customers in Europe and North America was one factor. Its share also dropped from 11.8% to 7.2%.

Meanwhile, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) continued to maintain strong momentum in the global market outside of China. It had a battery usage of 16.8 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 36.6%, with a share of 28.8%, ranking first. SNE Research stated, "CATL is rapidly increasing its global share by expanding exports to Brazil, Thailand, and Australia."

Panasonic of Japan ranked fifth with 5.1 GWh and a share of 8.7%.

SNE Research stated, "As the global electric vehicle market approaches a turning point with regional policy changes and the introduction of new models, stabilizing supply chains and maintaining competitiveness through customized strategies have become important tasks for South Korean companies."
