Reference News website, October 15 report - According to the Turkish Daily Sabah website on October 13, Turkey's Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kajarcı, announced on October 13 that the country successfully test-fired its domestically developed SOM-J cruise missile, stating that this demonstrated its advanced engineering capabilities.
The report stated that the SOM-J is a next-generation medium-range all-weather air-to-surface standoff cruise missile, developed by the Defense Industries Research and Development Institute under the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
Kajarcı said on the social media platform X: "The SOM-J cruise missile developed by the Defense Industries Research and Development Institute demonstrates the level of engineering technology achieved by Turkey."
The minister also said that in this test firing, the missile proved its ability to evade defense systems and radar through complex maneuvers and low-altitude flight.
He called this achievement "a step forward for Turkey on the path to complete independence and leadership."
In addition to fighter jets, this cruise missile is also planned to be integrated into Turkey's domestically produced drones.
The report also stated that the missile belongs to the SOM (standoff missile) series, and is designed specifically for striking ground and maritime targets.
It is estimated that the operational range of this missile exceeds 250 kilometers, and it has features such as low detectability, high precision, resistance to interference/persistent operations, suitability for networked operations, the ability to strike temporary targets, and compatibility with general-purpose weapon interface.
