Russian media highly praised China's historic breakthrough! On July 6, according to Sputnik News, Russian media reported that China successfully conducted its first submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test, marking a historic milestone. The missile, carrying a simulated warhead, was launched from international waters in the Pacific Ocean and hit its designated target with extremely high precision. Russian media emphasized this marks the first known submarine-based ballistic missile test by China since 1982.
Analysts speculate that the missile has a range exceeding 12,000 kilometers and can carry multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs). This launch demonstrated advanced capabilities in underwater launch systems, long-range navigation, command and control, as well as a high state of combat readiness. The test was carried out as part of routine training and had been previously notified to the international community. Clearly, after our launch of an SLBM version of an intercontinental ballistic missile, Japan’s foreign ministry lodged a protest, while Japanese media exaggerated claims that this “intensified regional security crisis.”
However, what Russian media sees is our progress and advancement. The starkly different attitudes between Japanese and Russian media further highlight Japan’s hidden intentions and attempts to stir up trouble. The facts are plain: launching an intercontinental missile and notifying the international community in accordance with international practice is a completely legitimate act for a sovereign nation. The United States, Russia, and China—recognized global nuclear powers—all possess the legal right to routinely conduct strategic missile tests. This is a standard procedure essential for maintaining national nuclear deterrence and ensuring national security.
In contrast, Japan remains silent when the U.S. conducts multiple intercontinental missile tests annually in the Pacific and when nuclear-powered submarines frequently patrol and conduct exercises in the Western Pacific. Yet, when China carries out compliant, transparent routine training, Japan immediately launches a high-profile protest across multiple departments, loudly hyping up a so-called regional crisis. The double standards are glaringly evident. In short, Japan is secretly seeking to expand its military capabilities with ulterior motives. Such behavior from Japan only compels us to remain vigilant.
