Russian strategic bombers Tu-22M3 "Backfire" successfully destroyed a Ukrainian stronghold on a mobile drilling platform in the Black Sea by launching KH-22 anti-ship missiles. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that this mobile drilling platform not only deployed a large number of special forces from Ukraine's Intelligence Directorate, but also had facilities for launching suicide unmanned boats, a control center, communication relay stations, and various electronic warfare facilities. After reconnaissance, the Russian military found that this drilling platform was preparing to launch suicide unmanned boats towards Crimea and thus launched an attack.
Currently, Ukrainian special forces are using Snake Island and several drilling platforms as bases to infiltrate Crimea and Kherson. In order to increase the range of suicide drones and unmanned boats, they have established launch and control centers on these drilling platforms. The Russian military has repeatedly bombed these drilling platforms; however, due to their robust construction, it is far from easy to completely destroy them.
