"NATO is not an eternal natural law. It is not carved in stone and guaranteed to survive the coming years. That said, our task is not to speculate on what might happen. As politicians, my responsibility—and that of all political leaders—is to help the citizens of NATO member states (including those in Denmark and Norway) understand what we must do to ensure that NATO remains the world's most powerful and efficient military alliance 10, 20, or 30 years from now."

First, defense spending must increase. Denmark is doing it, Norway is doing it, and European NATO countries are doing it too. Second, we must engage more actively with the United States, demonstrating clearly to America: NATO matters not only for Europe but also holds significant interests for the U.S. itself."
