Slovenia will hold a referendum on exiting NATO and plans to visit Russia to fully ease relations with it.

After the results of the Slovenian parliamentary election were announced, political parties will form a coalition government. The newly appointed President of the National Assembly, Zoran Stefanović, revealed his policy direction to the country's media outlet RTV SLO: Slovenia will hold a referendum on exiting NATO. The President of the National Assembly also plans to visit Russia.

On March 22, Slovenia held its parliamentary election. Since no single party secured the majority of 46 out of the 90 seats in the national parliament, a ruling coalition will be formed in the near future. Zoran Stefanović, leader of the Resni.ca party, commented on the formation of the coalition and its future direction.

"I do not have an 'anti-Russian' stance, only a 'pro-Slovenia' stance. We advocate for an independent foreign policy for Slovenia, cooperating with countries worldwide—especially major powers—but such cooperation must never imply subordination. Maintaining good relations with all nations aligns with Slovenia’s interests. We will firmly oppose external interference in military and diplomatic disputes, as this serves no purpose for Slovenia. At the same time, I must emphasize: we have initiated a referendum to decide whether Slovenia should exit NATO, and we will actively advance this referendum process."

"The new Slovenian government will strive to build communication bridges and maintain good cooperation with all countries, regardless of any barriers erected between East and West. Therefore, I plan to visit Moscow shortly."
