Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk denounced Poles who celebrated the exit poll results showing Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) winning in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliamentary election as "fools" and "traitors."

Last Sunday, Saxony-Anhalt held its state parliamentary election, with 16 political parties and 398 candidates competing. According to an exit poll conducted by Infratest Dimap for ARD television, the opposition party Alternative for Germany led with 44.5% of the vote, while the ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) secured only 18.5%.

Tusk wrote on X: "In Poland, only fools or traitors would cheer Germany’s AfD victory. Such people, however, do seem to be gathering in the 'Federal' (a nationalist and Eurosceptic alliance) and in Law and Justice (the opposition party)."

Previously, Bild reported that the Saxony-Anhalt election could mark the beginning of the end for German Chancellor Merz’s federal government and might trigger early government dissolution.
