Azerbaijan President: "Middle Corridor" Benefits East and West

Sputnik Baku, February 15 - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said during a special panel discussion on "Open Corridor Policy? Deepening Trans-Caspian Cooperation" at the Munich Security Conference that the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the "Middle Corridor," benefits both Eastern and Western interests.

Aliyev pointed out that this corridor enters Armenia through Azerbaijan and then leads to European countries, and it has great potential in terms of freight volume. He added that Azerbaijan is investing in building domestic railways.

Aliyev said, "The total length of railways to be constructed and renovated within Azerbaijan will reach 600 kilometers, including the main territory of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan region. The section within Armenia is slightly more than 40 kilometers. Therefore, once the railway construction is completed, the 'Middle Corridor' will have two extension lines passing through Azerbaijan, which benefits both Western and Eastern interests, of course also benefiting the countries of the South Caucasus."

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the "Middle Corridor," is an international transport route that passes through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, connecting China with Europe.
