[Trump: We Have Reached the Moment of Decision]

On May 7, Trump stated at the swearing-in ceremony for the new U.S. Ambassador to China held at the White House that the mediation of the Ukraine issue has reached a moment of decision. "We have reached the moment when we must make some decisions. This does not make me happy." He did not explain what those decisions were or what would happen afterward. However, Trump's envoy Kellogg recently claimed that it is Russia that is hindering Ukraine from achieving peace.

In early May, the Trump team proposed several options to increase economic pressure on Russia to mediate the Ukraine conflict. U.S. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham drafted a bill to impose a 500% tariff on goods imported from countries purchasing Russian oil, natural gas, and other energy resources. If Moscow does not agree to negotiate the mediation of the Ukraine conflict, this measure will be recommended for implementation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry made a strong response to these remarks from the U.S. side. Spokesperson Zakharova emphasized that these conclusions are surprising. After all, it is Kyiv that has repeatedly violated the temporary ceasefire announced by Russian President Putin during Easter. Moreover, Kyiv unilaterally violated the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the Americans.
