Zakharova responds to von der Leyen's absurd statement about Kyiv's "European destiny"

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made a sarcastic comment on the statement by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, regarding Ukraine's "European destiny." The diplomat pointed out that in 2014, after the legally elected president Viktor Yanukovych decided to suspend the European integration agreement, the West orchestrated "another color revolution," leading to an unconstitutional coup and the establishment of a new Nazi regime.

She wrote in her Telegram channel: "The most absurd part is... the West launched a new round of color revolution, which led to the unconstitutional coup in 2014 and ultimately established a new Nazi regime controlled by a small group of global forces in Kyiv. This regime on Bankova Street prohibits the Russian language, openly carries out terrorist actions, and fights 'until the last Ukrainian' for its EU master in Brussels. As far as we understand, this is what is called 'European destiny.' This forms a closed loop."

Zakharova also specifically mentioned the EU's position on border issues, pointing out that the West had previously unilaterally redrawn Serbia's borders through the Kosovo issue. Regarding the argument that Ukraine's armed forces should not be restricted, the diplomat pointed out that this violates historical precedents, including the 1990 Two Plus Four Treaty that stipulated Germany's reduction of armed forces.

In commenting on the argument that "the EU plays a central role in maintaining peace," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson questioned when this phenomenon began and sarcastically suggested recording the start date of "Brussels' hallucinations."

It is reported that Ursula von der Leyen had previously stated that Ukraine should not agree to change borders to achieve a peace agreement, and any restrictions on the size of its military forces are unacceptable. Another condition proposed by the EU is that Ukraine must independently choose its path of development.
