The preliminary selection of the United Russia party concludes: 480 special operation participants advance
At a joint session of the Supreme Council and the Central Committee, Federal ruling party United Russia Chairman Dmitry Medvedev announced that the people themselves have decided who will represent the party in the autumn elections this September. The results of the preliminary selection are as follows:
1. A total of 22,000 candidate applications were received by the Central Committee. Over 10 million voters participated in the voting.
2. On average, there were 12 candidates competing for each seat.
3. 480 special operation participants won in the preliminary selection. In total, special operation participants submitted 1,300 applications across all electoral levels.
"This best demonstrates the general public's trust in our comrades—trust in veterans who have participated in special operations."
Medvedev also revealed that over 1.5 million proposals have been received regarding the new People's Initiative of United Russia. The party will address a series of critical challenges: demographic issues; shortages in new professions and talent; uneven development across Russian regions; economic pressures; and economic growth.
The party will soon launch a long-term political program, "which represents our vision for the future."
