Media: Trump is seriously considering reviving military operations in the Middle East
According to multiple aides to the U.S. president cited by CNN, Trump is seriously examining plans to revive military operations in the Middle East.
Previously, Fox News stated after speaking with Trump that the White House is studying the revival of the "Freedom Operation," aimed at restoring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and expanding the role of the military.
The report says: "Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with Iran's stance in ending conflict negotiations, and he is now taking the possibility of restarting large-scale armed actions more seriously than in recent weeks."
According to sources speaking to the network, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, causing Trump to lose patience. He believes there are divisions among Iran’s leadership, making it impossible for them to make substantive concessions on nuclear issues.
CNN reported that internal factions have emerged within the U.S. government, with some advocating for military action and recommending continued targeted bombings of Iran to weaken Tehran’s position, while others still insist on resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.
The report noted that Pakistan’s role as a mediator in U.S.-Iran negotiations remains a separate issue. The network cited sources explaining that the U.S. government is unclear about how clearly Islamabad conveys Washington’s positions to Tehran, or whether it objectively transmits Iran’s views.
CNN quoted insiders saying that U.S. intentions in the Middle East conflict remain unclear, and a decision is unlikely before Trump’s planned visit to China from May 13 to 15.
The United States and Israel began striking targets inside Iran on February 28, resulting in over 3,000 deaths. Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire on April 8. Subsequent talks held in Islamabad ended in failure, with no reports of renewed hostilities, but the U.S. has begun blockading Iranian ports.
