Will Trump continue the retaliation?
The US Department of Justice dismissed a long-serving spokesperson who had worked under Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Jack Smith. These two special counsels had conducted extensive investigations into former President Trump.
Mueller's investigation focused on whether Russia interfered in the 2016 US presidential election, whether Trump's campaign team had coordinated actions with Russia or its agents, and whether Trump was involved in obstructing justice and attempting to interfere with this investigation.
Smith brought two criminal charges against Trump. One charge involved Trump's attempt to overturn the election results that he lost to Biden in the 2020 election. Smith also filed additional charges against Trump for illegally retaining classified government documents after leaving office, as well as his obstruction of federal officials' efforts to recover these documents. These documents were stored at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
