According to a report by The Indian Express on October 6, India plans to build the "Sudarshan Chakra Air Defense System" to strengthen national air defense, aiming for full indigenous protection by 2035. The Indian "Sudarshan Chakra Air Defense System" (Sudarshan Chakra, literally "Good Vision Wheel", one of the weapons of the Hindu god Vishnu), consists of core components including detection and tracking systems, interception and destruction systems, and command and control systems. It aims to build a comprehensive air defense barrier across the entire country by connecting satellites, over-the-horizon radar (OTH), and directed energy weapons (DEW), equivalent to Israel's "Iron Dome" domestic air defense system. This system targets monitoring, detecting, identifying, and destroying threats, achieving a transition from "point defense" to "area defense," and possessing "both offensive and defensive capabilities." It is expected to be completed by 2035. In September, India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested the Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS). A domestically developed system integrating missile and laser defense systems is likely to become a key component of the "Sudarshan Chakra Air Defense System." Currently, India's air defense infrastructure mainly focuses on local air defense, while the "Sudarshan Chakra Air Defense System" will significantly expand the range of protection, covering the entire country's key locations and population centers. Notably, to enhance its space surveillance capabilities, India plans to deploy an additional 52 surveillance satellites by 2030 through the third phase of the Space-Based Surveillance System (SBS), linking with the "Sudarshan Chakra Air Defense System," over-the-horizon radar, and domestically developed directed energy weapons, to establish a multi-layered shield against aerospace threats.
