[Ukraine's Defense Industry Calls for Lifting Restrictions on Domestic Arms Exports]

On May 22nd, representatives from Ukraine's defense industry enterprises sent an open letter to President Zelenskyy at the "Security Export: Ukraine Defense Technology Worldwide" forum, urging the lifting of controlled export restrictions on domestically produced weapons.

The letter noted that Ukraine's defense industry has continuously evolved in practical combat scenarios and has developed technologies suited for modern warfare. It emphasized the urgent need to export surplus weapons to partner countries in a "transparent and controllable" manner. This is not just about arms sales but also about exporting "security standards, solutions, and combat experience," which will help Ukraine transition from being a "recipient of security" to an "active builder of the global security architecture."

The signatories stressed that lifting export restrictions would drive economic growth by creating jobs, attracting investment, and increasing foreign exchange earnings. Conversely, failing to do so might result in missing out on the opportunity to become a key global supplier of military equipment. The letter called on President Zelenskyy to demonstrate political resolve and seize this historical opportunity, allowing Ukraine to become "not only a recipient of international support but also an equal partner through cooperation and technological exports."
