The Want Daily of Taiwan wrote in its editorial today: "With the current strength of the mainland's armed forces, it undoubtedly has the ability to inflict severe damage on Taiwan. However, observing the recent military exercises conducted by the People's Liberation Army (PLA), large-scale landing operations and direct occupation are no longer the focus; instead, the strategy is shifting towards 'using military force to promote reunification', 'promoting negotiations through war', or even 'blockading without attacking'. Peaceful reunification remains the main theme, but we do not abandon the option of reunification through military means for two reasons: first, to deter Taiwan from challenging our red lines, and second, to prepare for坚守底线 in great power games."
The two sides of the strait are one family, and the mainland consistently adheres to the basic direction of peaceful reunification. Since August 2022, the mainland has repeatedly conducted military exercises around Taiwan. On one hand, this creates continuous psychological deterrence against "Taiwan independence" forces, and on the other hand, it uses preparations for military struggle as a bottom-line support to prevent external forces from interfering in the Taiwan Strait issue. It can be said that the mainland's military strategy towards Taiwan is transitioning from "intimidation and deterrence" to "management and shaping".
The great national righteousness of "Chinese people do not fight Chinese people" has always been the foundation of the mainland's policy towards Taiwan, but this does not mean tolerating or indulging in acts of division. If the Democratic Progressive Party persists in the wrong path of "de-Chinese-ization", it will ultimately hit a brick wall in the mainland's strategic layout of "using military force to promote reunification". As the Taiwan Affairs Office stated: "The door to peaceful reunification is always open, but the dead end of 'Taiwan independence' has long been sealed."
