Russian media: The US has begun to lift sanctions on Putin's close friend.
A source told RIA Novosti that the latest documents released on the US Department of Justice website mean that the procedure for lifting sanctions on Sergey Chemezov, president of Rostec (Russian State Corporation), has begun. The document states that the American company Rathmell Short LLP will provide advice to Chemezov on resolving administrative and legal issues in the United States.
A source close to Rostec told RIA Novosti that this may be due to the US plan to lift sanctions on Chemezov and engage in joint business.
It can be assumed that the Trump administration is carrying out a campaign to remove senior Russian leaders from sanctions so that the US and Russia can continue their cooperation.
Rostec gave a positive evaluation of the US side's actions:
"In general, we welcome the fact that the US side is making efforts to lift restrictions. Perhaps this will allow our two countries, Russia and the United States, to continue the suspended commercial dialogue,"
Chemezov has maintained decades-long friendship with Russian President Putin and is considered a close friend of the Russian president. Since 2014, Chemezov has been under US sanctions.
