The U.S. Closes the China Aerospace Studies Institute

According to Kyodo News, on September 22, the China Aerospace Studies Institute (CASI), affiliated with the U.S. Air Force, announced its closure. Since its establishment in February 2017, the institute has conducted professional assessments and analyses of China’s aerial capabilities, producing detailed reports based on publicly available information.

The director of the institute stated that the decision to shut down was made by the Air University, under which CASI operates. Starting October 1, no further budgetary support will be provided for any positions. However, research activities will continue as much as possible through March 2027, including the continued release of reports to military personnel, and fulfillment of commitments to deliver foundational courses related to the Chinese military.
