Foreign media: Bipartisan lawmakers in Michigan introduce the Connected Vehicle Security Act, aiming to prohibit connected vehicles and their software and hardware made in China from entering the U.S. market. The software ban will take effect in January 2027, while the hardware ban will come into force in January 2030, with the scope also extending to three other countries including Russia.

The bill is similar to legislation proposed by the Senate in April, aiming to codify connectivity restrictions on vehicles initiated during the Biden administration. Previously, over 120 bipartisan members of Congress had written to Trump opposing the allowance of Chinese automakers to enter the U.S. market.

Lawmakers are concerned about subsidies, data collection practices, and national security risks associated with Chinese automakers. Earlier this year, Trump had expressed willingness to consider allowing Chinese automakers to build factories in the United States.
