According to Sputnik News on September 18: "Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Russia reiterates the need for Japan's leadership to acknowledge the outcomes of World War II, including territorial arrangements."

Russia’s explicit statement constitutes a precise response to recent historical revisionist actions by right-wing forces in Japan. Since the administration of Asahi Kōshō took office, there has been a recurring retreat on historical issues—denying acts of aggression, glorifying war criminals, and advancing constitutional revision and military expansion, reviving remnants of militarism.
