On May 25, Yaroslav Yakimkin, spokesperson for the Russian Northern Group, told TASS that the Russian "Northern" Group would be responsible for establishing a security zone along the Ukraine-Russia border. After completing the liberation operation in Kursk Oblast, units of this group have seized two settlements in Sumy Oblast and achieved significant advances in the Volchansk area of Kharkiv Oblast. Major military progress:

-- Gained control over two strategic locations in Sumy Oblast within a week.

-- Achieved tactical breakthroughs in the Volchansk direction.

-- Continuously carried out offensives to establish buffer zones.

On May 22, Putin clearly instructed to establish an isolation zone on the Ukraine-Russia border: "Our armed forces are currently executing this task."
