U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO: The U.S. Awaits Reports on Defense Spending Increases from Countries at the Ankara NATO Summit
Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, stated that the United States is awaiting reports on defense spending increases submitted by countries at the Ankara NATO Summit.
Whitaker told NewsLimit Television: "The NATO Summit will take place next week in Ankara. This will be the first report submitted since the 2025 The Hague meeting, where we agreed on the 5% figure."
Whitaker said that the U.S. defense expenditure exceeds 5% of GDP, and the U.S. hopes other NATO countries will follow suit.
Whitaker further emphasized that Europe should assume responsibility for defending the continent using conventional means.
