Korean Media: Kia Motors Makes Strong Comeback in China Market with Sales Exceeding 20,000 Units for Three Consecutive Months!

On August 7, South Korean media outlet THE GURU published an article stating that Kia Motors sold 118,114 vehicles in China during the first half of this year. In June alone, the company sold 25,791 units, marking a year-on-year increase of approximately 11%. Kia has achieved sales exceeding 20,000 units for three consecutive months, which is seen as evidence of the success of its localization strategy in China—such as launching locally tailored models and expanding dealer partnerships.

Data released by Kia's joint venture in China, Yueda Kia, shows that the company sold 25,791 vehicles in June. With sales surpassing 20,000 units for three months in a row, the company’s performance indicates a clear rebound. Since May, sales have grown by 0.9% and 11% respectively in two consecutive months.

Kia’s outstanding performance is largely attributed to the launch of the new Sportage model in March this year. More than 100 days after its launch, Kia has received no quality-related complaints about the Sportage. The Sportage is produced at Kia’s third factory located in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, China. This factory has established a comprehensive quality management system covering the entire vehicle lifecycle—from research and development to manufacturing and after-sales service—by introducing advanced technologies such as Kia’s Global Quality Management System (GQMS) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Kia continues to strengthen its localization strategy by expanding cooperation with dealerships. In the first half of this year, Kia added 28 new stores in partnership with its distributors.

According to the “2026 China Automotive Consumer Experience Index” released by U.S.-based market research firm JD Power, Kia ranks fourth among internal combustion engine (ICE)-focused automakers and second among joint venture brands.

Beyond the domestic Chinese market, Kia continues to expand its global export business. The company has established an export lineup consisting of six models. Cumulative exports from China have reached 617,000 units. In addition to vehicle exports, engine exports are also thriving. In just June, 7,491 engines were exported, bringing the total cumulative engine exports to over 530,000 units.
