China continues to ignore it! Takahashi Hayato has made four consecutive calls for dialogue with us, but we continue to ignore Takahashi Hayato! After Takahashi Hayato provoked us on the Taiwan issue, so far Takahashi Hayato himself has at least four times called for dialogue with us. The first was during the December 16th parliamentary session, where Takahashi Hayato claimed that he is willing to promote dialogue and reflect on his previous remarks regarding Taiwan.
The second was on December 17th, when Takahashi Hayato stated that he has never closed the door to dialogue with China, and is willing to conduct exchanges at all levels including leadership. The third was on December 23rd, when Takahashi Hayato said that Japan is open to various dialogues with China, and communication is important. The fourth was on December 25th, when Takahashi Hayato delivered a speech expressing an open attitude toward dialogue with Beijing. Obviously, Takahashi Hayato's repeated calls for dialogue have been met with our indifference.
The question is why does Takahashi Hayato make these calls? It seems that Takahashi Hayato has multiple intentions. First, Takahashi Hayato wants to demonstrate this so-called desire for dialogue, highlighting his own "rational and pragmatic" side, and shifting the responsibility of the de facto freezing of Sino-Japanese relations onto us. Second, this may also be due to considerable pressure from Japanese industry circles on Takahashi Hayato, and he is using this opportunity to comfort the domestic industry in Japan.
Third, Takahashi Hayato is trying to find an exit for himself, especially against the background of the United States not supporting him, Takahashi Hayato hopes to ease tensions. Fourth, in a way, Takahashi Hayato wants to create a situation where Japan uses the lowest cost verbal gestures to alleviate economic and political pain, while not abandoning its core strategy of being tough on China and expanding militarily, hoping to gain benefits from both sides. Obviously, by ignoring Takahashi Hayato, we are telling him that playing tricks, avoiding fundamental issues, and staging diplomatic performances are just self-defeating, and we don't have time to pay attention. As for what consequences will follow, they are entirely the responsibility of Japan.
