Overseas media: Chinese scientists, through ancient DNA analysis, have confirmed for the first time that approximately 20% of the "ghost ancestors" in the modern Tibetan population originate from the central Yunnan region.

Previously, the academic community generally believed that 80% of the genes of Tibetans came from ancient populations in North China 9,500 to 4,000 years ago, with the remaining part of their origins unknown. This study has empirically verified that a certain archaeological site in Yunnan is one of the sources of Tibetan ancestors.

The research results were published in the journal Science, filling an important gap in prehistoric genetic data in East Asia and Southeast Asia, and providing new clues for understanding the evolutionary path of highland populations adapting to harsh environments.
