Hamedia: How is Kazakhstan integrating into the Chinese economy?
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited China from August 30 to September 3. Here, the Kazakh News Agency journalist reviews the process of Kazakhstan's integration into the Chinese economy over the past year.
Trade relations
In the past year, Kazakhstan has continuously expanded its trade relations with various regions in China. In 2024, the Kazakhstan Trade Policy Development Center (QazTrade) Joint Stock Company established a representative office in Urumqi and opened offices in Sichuan and Hubei. The Chinese side also suggested setting up another representative office in Shandong.
In November of the same year, the Kazakh Invest State Company established a representative office in Xi'an and conducted business through its partner Shaanxi Baosheng Silk Road Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. According to the agreement, the newly established representative office will assist Kazakhstan in attracting Chinese investment and promoting projects. In addition, the official office of the Kazakh Invest State Company in Beijing is already operational.
Transportation and logistics
The logistics center built by Kazakhstan in Xi'an started construction in May 2023 and was put into operation in February 2024.
According to the news office of the Kazakhstan National Railway Company, the center is designed to handle an annual throughput of 66,500 standard containers, covering an area of 6.7 hectares. The center will help transport Kazakhstan's goods through the Xi'an, Khorgos, Alashankou, and Tacheng border crossings, and support the transportation of Chinese goods to Europe.
Consulate General in Guangzhou
Deepening cooperation requires new diplomatic platforms. It is reported that during the meeting between the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and China in Almaty in May 2025, both sides reached an agreement to establish a Kazakh Consulate General in Guangzhou, a major commercial center in southern China.
The opening time of this institution has not yet been determined. At this stage, Kazakh citizens can get assistance through the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Beijing, the Consulate General in Shanghai and Xi'an, as well as the passport and visa service office in Urumqi.
Cultural and humanistic projects
In June 2025, the Kazakhstan Cultural Center opened in Beijing. The center has a library, exhibition hall, and meeting room, as well as spaces for creative activities, handicrafts, and Kazakh language learning. In addition, the center will host events such as concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, festival celebrations, and lectures for Chinese audiences.
