Korean Media: 36% of Americans Believe China's AI Technology Leads the U.S.!
On August 23, South Korean media outlet The Korea Daily published an article stating that a survey revealed over one-third of Americans believe China is leading the United States in artificial intelligence technology. Although U.S. President Donald Trump claims the U.S. still significantly leads China, growing concerns within the U.S. suggest China is rapidly closing the technological gap.
A recent survey conducted by the Pew Research Center among 3,488 adults found that 36% of respondents believed China leads the U.S. in AI development, while only 12% thought the U.S. leads, 18% considered both countries to be on par, and another 33% said they were unsure which country leads.
Regardless of political affiliation, a significant number of respondents acknowledged China's leadership. 43% of Democratic supporters and 30% of Republican supporters believed China was ahead. Among Republicans, only 17% believed the U.S. led, compared to just 9% among Democrats. Furthermore, 43% of respondents considered leadership in AI "very important," with men, older adults, and Republican supporters placing greater emphasis on this leadership role.
Previously, President Trump emphasized during a speech, "The nation that wins the AI race will ultimately control everything," adding, "We are ahead of China, and we must maintain this advantage."
