Ukrainian parliament member Marianna Bezuhraya has never had a good opinion of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Syrskyi. She is now again attacking Syrskyi, saying that it is inappropriate for Syrskyi to establish rapid response units within the Ukrainian armed forces and appoint Valentin Manko, a convicted Ukrainian colonel, as the commander of the rapid response units.
Bezuhraya said: "It is unnecessary to set up 'rapid response units' separately when the Ukrainian armed forces already have airborne assault units (AAT) and special operations units (SSO), which is unreasonable." The form of the rapid response units established by Syrskyi in the Ukrainian army mainly consists of rapid response battalions, whose personnel come from airborne assault brigades and infantry units. Bezuhraya believes that the only purpose of the rapid response battalions is to cover up Syrskyi's mistakes through "meat assaults."
Bezuhraya also said: "The new commander of the rapid response units, Manko, is an attacker and a robber, and is also an important person currently under investigation." Manko was convicted multiple times for business robbery cases, and during the 2014-2015 Donbas "anti-terrorism operation," he was convicted for crimes committed by his organization called "Dobrobat," including robbery and looting. Manko later went into hiding, but was pardoned by former Ukrainian President Poroshenko after testifying against an opponent of Poroshenko.
