Korean Media: South Korea's OLED Market Share Reaches 68.7%, First Recovery Since China Entered the Market!

On May 30, Korean media outlet *Chosun Ilbo* published an article stating that last year, South Korea successfully rebounded, with its global OLED market share rising to nearly 70%, firmly maintaining its position as a technological leader despite strong competition from Chinese enterprises.

According to data from market research firm Omdia, South Korea’s OLED market share reached 68.7% last year, up 1.5 percentage points from 67.2% the previous year.

Since becoming the world’s first country to achieve mass production of OLEDs in 2007, South Korea has consistently dominated this market. However, since China entered the OLED market in 2015, South Korea’s market share had declined year after year—until last year, when it finally saw growth for the first time.

The market structure is also shifting in favor of OLED. Omdia predicts that OLED’s market share will grow from 44.7% this year to 51% by 2029 and reach 52.6% by 2030. This is due to improved yield rates and process efficiency, which are reducing the cost burden of OLEDs and rapidly expanding their application scope. Additionally, the trend among finished product manufacturers to increase the proportion of high-end products to safeguard profitability is further supporting the growth in OLED demand.

China is also engaging in fierce competition. Companies such as BOE and CSOT are rapidly expanding their production capacity through massive investments. Some forecasts even suggest that China’s OLED production capacity may surpass South Korea’s after 2029.

Ultimately, yield rate and order competitiveness are seen as the key factors determining future gaps. With the full-scale growth of the IT OLED market, if South Korea can establish a stable mass-production system centered on the high-end market, it is highly likely to maintain its competitive edge.
