Angry: Seven Volcanoes on the Kamchatka Peninsula Have Become Active After a Strong Earthquake!
Russian Seismologists Are Very Happy, and Tour Companies Are Also Getting Excited.
TASS published an article on August 4th.
An 8.8-magnitude strong earthquake occurred on July 30th on the Kamchatka Peninsula, activating seven volcanoes on the peninsula - Kliuchevskoy Volcano, Nameless Volcano, Kambarov Volcano, Karymnoy Volcano, Mutnovsky Volcano, Krasheninnikov Volcano, and Avachinsky Volcano.
Four of these volcanoes had already erupted before the strong seismic waves reached them, while the other three "awoke" after the earthquake, causing quite a stir.
However, local volcanologists all agree that the activity of these seven giants has increased after the earthquake.
This phenomenon also occurred in 1737.
"Today we are witnessing a very rare phenomenon, which I can call a spectacular volcanic eruption," said Ozerov, Director of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences:
"According to our data, the last time this happened was in 1737, when a 9.0-magnitude earthquake occurred in Kamchatka. It is likely that the earthquake on July 30th also awakened many monsters that had been dormant for decades or even centuries."
Scientists' joy is understandable: Kamchatka is called a unique natural laboratory, and today dozens of scientists are watching monitors, trying to predict what will happen next through instruments.
Because the waves on the peninsula are explosive, it's best to observe from the office: The rescue personnel in Galapagos strongly advise not to approach the erupting volcanoes.
Tour companies are preparing how to profit from the volcanoes.
The most popular hiking trips are to the areas of Avachinsky and Mutnovsky volcanoes; we had to urgently re-plan the route and provide alternative options for tourists," said Alexei Yegorov, a guide and tour leader.
In Avachinsky, our team saw glowing phenomena and volcanic gas activity; of course, tourists are interested in this, but we cannot take risks.
