Foreign media: Dr. Liang Shan, a renowned HIV research expert and professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the United States, has officially joined the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Medical Sciences (SMART), serving as a senior researcher and director of the Institute of Human Immunology.

He has long focused on the immunobiological mechanisms of HIV infection and antiviral strategies. He has pointed out that, aside from a few bone marrow transplant cases, no one has yet completely cured HIV. He hopes to discover new methods to eliminate the virus by exploring unknown immune mechanisms. SMART evaluated his work as "laying an important foundation for understanding HIV immune mechanisms and functional cure strategies." He discovered a new mechanism by which HIV kills target cells, which is of critical significance for the development of next-generation drugs.

This is the third senior scholar who has recently chosen to return to China and join a research institution in Shenzhen.
