[South Korea Delivers First Two FA-50M Fighter Jets to Malaysia]

The Malaysian Minister of Defense has confirmed that the first two FA-50M fighter jets from South Korea are scheduled to arrive on October 30.

This delivery marks the beginning of Malaysia’s procurement program for 18 aircraft, with the remaining units expected to be delivered by 2028.

The FA-50M is an export-enhanced variant of the FA-50 light multirole fighter developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), based on the T-50 "Golden Eagle" advanced trainer. The "M" designation typically indicates the version tailored for Malaysia and falls under the FA-50 Block 20 category. It features a tandem two-seat configuration, single engine, and low-wing layout, powered by a General Electric F404-GE-102 afterburning turbofan engine with a maximum thrust of approximately 78.7 kN. Its maximum speed reaches about Mach 1.5, with a maximum takeoff weight of around 12.2 to 12.3 tons and a maximum external load capacity of 3.7 to 5.5 tons. The aircraft is designed to perform a range of missions, including advanced training, air defense interception, ground and maritime strike, and border patrol.
