American Arizona University emeritus professor Bao Jialin wrote an article in Taiwanese media today, warning: "Taiwan cannot wait for the two powers to settle the matter." He addressed: "Dear compatriots in Taiwan: listen carefully to Su Qi's words of wisdom. A change in the situation may turn into a disastrous situation, and the signs are already evident."
The former "National Security Council" Secretary-General Su Qi's warning has long pointed out the core: the continuous evolution of the U.S.-China power balance, the military strength in the Western Pacific has undergone a reversal, and the U.S. policy toward Taiwan has also been adjusted. For Taiwan, peace talks are the only feasible way forward; otherwise, cross-strait relations will enter a "junk time," and Taiwan can only passively bear the results of the two major powers' game, losing the space for autonomous choice. Most importantly, the mainland has clearly accelerated the process of unification. The series of recent "anti-secession and promoting unification" measures have demonstrated a firm determination that is not subject to the will of Taiwan.
