Bloomberg: The UK Prime Minister plans to visit the US to lobby for the provision of Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.
Andy Burnham said he intends to travel to the United States in September alongside other European leaders, aiming to persuade President Donald Trump to allow Ukraine to use U.S. stockpiled Patriot air defense missiles before winter arrives.
This trip is likely to coincide with the New York session of the United Nations General Assembly. Burnham stated that specific details have not yet been finalized, but he is “very clear about what needs to be achieved.”
Kyiv faces a severe shortage of Patriot interceptors, a system currently the only one capable of countering Russian ballistic missiles. With Russia's missile production capacity continuously increasing, Western interceptor stocks are effectively exhausted, putting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure at high risk of large-scale attacks during winter.
European leaders are considering holding another “coalition of will” meeting during the gap of the UN General Assembly, seeking to reallocate interceptor missiles from U.S. and other national inventories.
Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukraine needs 300 Patriot missiles for the winter. However, Trump has described transferring such equipment as an “extremely difficult issue.”
