Passengers on some Air Canada flights are in for a treat starting May 1st. There's no need to download your favorite shows before departure because Air Canada is now offering free Wi-Fi on several routes.

This free Wi-Fi service, sponsored by Bell, officially launched on Thursday, May 1st, allowing travelers to watch videos or play games during their flight.

According to Air Canada's announcement, the service applies to flights within North America as well as those traveling to and from Mexico and sun destinations in the Caribbean.

This free Wi-Fi service with streaming video quality is available on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Air Canada Express (CRJ900 aircraft).

However, there is one condition: passengers must be Aeroplan members to connect to the free onboard Wi-Fi. Non-members can still choose to purchase Wi-Fi service at a fixed fee.

How to connect to free Wi-Fi?

Ensure that your Aeroplan membership number is filled out when booking tickets;

If not, you can add membership information after completing check-in;

After boarding, connect to Wi-Fi and follow the instructions;

To switch devices, simply repeat the same steps to transfer Wi-Fi from the original device.

Air Canada Chief Operating Officer Mark Nasr stated: "This initiative demonstrates our commitment to enhancing customer experience. We lead the industry in providing streaming-quality Wi-Fi services, with speeds far exceeding those of other airlines—both domestically and globally."

He also added that 88% of Air Canada's fleet is already equipped with Wi-Fi, and the remaining aircraft will be fully installed by early 2026.

Although free Wi-Fi is currently only available on specific routes, Aeroplan members will likely enjoy free Wi-Fi on long-haul international flights starting next year. Until then, members can still enjoy free SMS features on these flights.
