The joint statement issued after the U.S.-Japan Extended Deterrence Dialogue held in Tokyo stated that the United States will continue to employ its full range of defense capabilities—including nuclear deterrence—to protect Japan.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in its statement: "The U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to use all defense capabilities, including nuclear deterrence, to safeguard Japan." The document also noted that Japan reiterated its support for U.S. military forces and their "peacekeeping operations." The statement highlighted that both sides discussed efforts to upgrade U.S. nuclear capabilities, as well as Japan’s defense policy amid "growing regional nuclear threats."

Meanwhile, Japan urged the United States to strengthen international dialogue aimed at preventing nuclear arms races, including arms control dialogues with China and Russia. Both sides again criticized North Korea’s nuclear program and advocated for the "complete denuclearization" of North Korea.

The operator of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), suspended the release of treated wastewater following an unexpected emergency signal.

TEPCO reported that the pumps responsible for delivering seawater used to dilute low-radiation water remained operational. No abnormalities were detected in equipment status during the inspection period.

According to sources: "It was also confirmed that no anomalies were found in the intake monitoring indicators from the Advanced Liquid Processing System (ALPS)."

The cause behind the triggering of the emergency signal is currently under investigation.
