The facility was opened by the Indian and Moroccan defense ministers near Casablanca in Berchid.
According to the official Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), the Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM) factory located in the industrial area of Berchid has started producing WhAP for the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) and potential foreign orders. It added that the factory will become a catalyst for the defense industry ecosystem, increasing the use of local components from an initial 35% to 50%.
The contract for producing WhAP in Morocco was announced on September 30, 2024. Although the figures involved have not been officially confirmed, at that time, the Business Standard of India quoted defense officials as saying that 150 WhAPs would be built for Morocco over three years.
WhAP, previously known as the Falcon, was developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of the Indian Ministry of Defense for the Indian Army, which calls it the Infantry Protection Mobility Vehicle (IPMV). It is also in service with the Central Reserve Police Force, a paramilitary force.
