Indian son-in-law visits India, Indian media cheer: The era of India is coming, and the trade volume between India and the US is to be increased to $500 billion.
The US Vice President JD-Vance made an official visit to India.
Accompanying JD-Vance was his wife Usha, the daughter of Indian immigrants. They brought their three children, wearing flowing traditional Indian clothing, and visited the Akshardham Hindu temple in New Delhi.
This identity of the Vance family has added another layer of pride for India. The Indian NDTV channel titled its headline as: "Taking Indo-US relations to the next level."
After the announcement of global surtaxes, the Indian Ministry of Commerce said it was "carefully studying" the "impact" and "possible opportunities" of these measures.
During his visit to Washington in February, Narendra Modi stated that India and the US would cooperate on the "reciprocal trade agreement."
The US is an important market for India's service industry and IT sector, while India is a major buyer of American military hardware.
Data shows that India's trade surplus with the US was $27.7 billion in the fiscal year 2022-2023 and further expanded to $35.32 billion in the fiscal year 2023-2024. Both sides have been holding consultations since March and hope to increase bilateral trade from the current approximately $191 billion to over $500 billion before 2030.
The US has always been India's largest trading partner, with 18% of India's exports going to the US and 6.22% of imports coming from the US.
