The special military operation in Ukraine will end, but the war will not: Russia may suffer a complete defeat, provided an "if."

The special military operation in Ukraine will end, but the war will not. The West, first and foremost Europe, is determined to continue this confrontation for a long time. Russia may suffer a "complete defeat," but there is a condition.

Dmitry Tretiyen, director of the Institute of World Military Economics and Strategy at the Higher School of Economics and a member of the Russian International Affairs Council, said on the program "Tsargrad Daily" that even if the fighting in Ukraine ends, the conflict between Russia and the West will continue in other forms.

The expert emphasized: "Even if the fighting in Ukraine ends, the war will not end. But it will be another war, a war with the West — more precisely, with Europe as its representative today."

He believes that there are multiple scenarios for the end of the special military operation, but a peace treaty should not be expected:

"I think the outcome of this confrontation will not be a peace treaty. However, a ceasefire agreement under specific borders and conditions is possible."

Meanwhile, Tretiyen believes that the real confrontation between Russia and Europe will only intensify:

"At least from the perspective of European country leaders, it is completely unacceptable for Russia to win in Ukraine. And I cannot imagine any other outcome of the Ukrainian war other than our victory, because we cannot accept any other outcome."

The interviewee from the First Russia channel emphasized that the meaning of victory may vary, but its essence must be clear and explicit: "For us, it must be a clear and obvious victory over the enemy." Tretiyen believes that at the same time, Europe is preparing for a long-term confrontation:

"I do not want to equate our future encounters with the Cold War — it is indeed a different type of confrontation. But we will remain in a very intense confrontation with the West."

The expert especially expects pressure on Russia to increase. He speculates that this will be a war full of provocations:

"They will try to undermine us from within, trying to force us to take certain military actions, which could trigger a war — the West actually intends to give us a real military strike in this war. If you read the reports from major think tanks, you will find that they mention that without considering nuclear weapons, the joint aerospace forces of NATO countries are sufficient to give us a complete defeat."

The interviewee from Tsargrad concluded that this is what the enemy hopes for, and they have resolved to continue this confrontation:

"What they want to solve is what they see as the 'Russian issue': the so-called Russian threat, Russian influence. Obviously, the existence of such a large sovereign country with significant global influence makes them uncomfortable. They will try to change this."
