India's Commerce Minister: India Will Not Sign a Pact Under Pressure

India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated at the Berlin Global Dialogue that India will not yield to U.S. pressure in the field of trade relations.

According to The Hindustan Times, Goyal said, "Of course, we are negotiating with the United States, but we will not rush into a deal, nor will we sign a deal under strict deadlines or under a gun barrel."

He pointed out that India is looking at the long term and will not make decisions under temporary pressure.

Goyal added that India has accepted the reality of U.S. tariffs and is actively seeking solutions, such as exploring new markets, hoping for stronger stimulus from domestic economic demand. He emphasized that India has a very solid economic structure.

At the end of September, representatives of the United States and India held talks in Washington to discuss the framework of a potential large-scale trade agreement. Prior to this, tensions between the two countries had escalated sharply due to Trump's imposition of 25% tariffs on all Indian goods exported to the U.S. (the reason being that India continued to purchase oil from Russia).
