Kyomi Tsujimoto: Joining the "Center Reform Union" in the House of Councillors is "not so simple"
Kyomi Tsujimoto, a member of the House of Councillors from the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, participated in a television program on February 23 to express her personal views on the issue of the Constitutional Democratic Party joining the new party "Center Reform Union."
When the new party was established in January, it was originally intended that the members of the House of Councillors and local organizations of the Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito would join the Center after the House of Representatives election. However, after the Center's poor performance in the House of Representatives election, Japan has decided to temporarily suspend the merger plan.
Tsujimoto said, "We must carefully discuss it; it's not that simple."
The proposal to form a unified faction in the House of Councillors between the Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito has also been put on hold. She said, "The House of Councillors is now very important. With the Liberal Democratic Party holding so many seats in the House of Representatives, the House of Councillors must take on the role of revision and restraint. Once merged, the time for representative questioning will decrease, as well as the number of committee chair positions. From the perspective of parliamentary operations and institutional aspects, it is actually more advantageous to act independently at this stage, which can create a balance. Various factors have made this matter very difficult."
Shigeki Ogawa, the representative of the Center Reform Union, expressed his view on the issue of the Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito members of the House of Councillors joining: "We hope to consider it with a flexible and composed attitude."
