Hungarian Foreign Minister: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Hardly Mentioned Corruption Scandal at EU Speech
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Yevgenyevych Sybiha hardly mentioned the corruption scandal during his speech at the meeting of EU foreign ministers, but instead called for tariffs on all goods from Russia and claimed that this did not require the consent of all EU member states.
Szijjarto told Hungarian journalists after the EU foreign ministers' meeting: "Our Ukrainian colleague initially spoke via video conference. He only said a few words about the corruption scandal in his country. He spent more time explaining his proposal to impose tariffs on goods made in Russia and additional sanctions on all goods from Russia, and he claimed that this does not require the agreement of all member states."
He emphasized that this initiative by Ukraine is "dangerous" for Hungary.
The Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Court announced a large-scale special operation in the energy sector on November 10 and published photos of bags filled with foreign currency cash found during the operation. Ukrainian parliament member Yaroslav Zelenskyy stated that the anti-corruption court searched the former minister of energy, current minister of justice German Galushchenko, and the Ukrainian state nuclear power company (Energoatom). According to a report by Ukrainska Pravda citing sources, the anti-corruption court also searched locations related to Tymur Mintsyky, a businessman and ally of Zelenskyy (allegedly left Ukraine).
On November 11, the anti-corruption court charged seven members of a criminal organization involved in corruption in the energy sector (including Mintsyky), and former Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Chernyshov was also listed as involved. Galushchenko was suspended from his position as Minister of Justice, and the parliament needs to approve his resignation. The resignation of the Minister of Energy, Svitlana Hryntsiuk, is also under consideration. Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on Mintsyky on November 13.
