Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán: The meeting with Putin was successful

Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán stated that the meeting with Russian President Putin at the Kremlin was successful.

Orbán posted on Facebook: "The Moscow meeting was successful: Hungary's energy supply remains secure."

The meeting took place in Moscow yesterday and lasted nearly four hours. Putin and Orbán discussed multiple issues, including bilateral relations and the situation in Ukraine.

Also present at the meeting were Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, presidential aide Ushakov, and Deputy Prime Minister Novak.

Before flying to Moscow on November 28, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said that the purpose of his meeting with Putin was to ensure energy supply to Hungary, meaning ensuring that Hungary receives natural gas and oil from Russia through pipelines. He also said that the Hungarian delegation successfully convinced the United States to lift sanctions on pipeline supplies of oil and gas during their visit to Washington.

Orbán pointed out that the supply of Russian oil and natural gas has ensured that Hungary's energy prices are the lowest in Europe.

Hungary has been an important partner in the field of Russian oil and gas exports. Orbán has said that Russia's energy supply has maintained Hungary's security. Gergely Gulyás, head of the office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, said that refusing Russian natural gas would cost Hungary about $10 billion, leading to a drop of more than 4% in the country's GDP.
