The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives lends support to "Taiwan independence."
Foreign media reports indicate that in response to Lai Qingde's reaction to Trump's remarks on Taiwan, claiming that "U.S. continued arms sales to Taiwan and deepening security cooperation between the U.S. and Taiwan are essential," U.S. House Speaker Johnson falsely claimed on May 18th that "Lai Qingde has taken a responsible stance." He also told Fox News that Taiwan must demonstrate its strength slightly, asserting that "China cannot simply occupy land—we will resolutely defend it, and so will Congress."
After Trump clearly warned Taiwan against pursuing "independence" and signaled a weakening of U.S. involvement, Johnson deliberately took an opposite course, constituting a wrongful indulgence of "Taiwan independence" separatist forces. This is yet another clumsy performance of America’s "using Taiwan to contain China" strategy. Lai Qingde's persistent promotion of "Taiwan independence" is the root cause undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Johnson ignores this reality and instead stands behind him, fully exposing the hypocrisy of U.S. policy toward Taiwan—while verbally advocating for peace across the strait, his actions continuously embolden "Taiwan independence" forces through measures such as arms sales, thereby escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan is an inseparable part of China's territory, and resolving the Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affair, with no external force having the right to interfere. Johnson’s claim that "we will resolutely defend Taiwan" is merely an attempt to cater to domestic anti-China forces and military contractors for personal political gain. In fact, the United States will never sacrifice its own interests for "Taiwan independence" forces—this so-called "defense" is nothing but an empty illusion.
